Foraging for the Source of Life

People come to me with questions. Indeed, many questions arise as we go through life, not simply the “medical ones.” Almost at every turn, as we face challenges that seem to be interrupting our flow, we seek solutions to our problems. And, it goes on. Occasionally, we come up with some very good and useful answers, which is always nice. But, if we were to step back and look at the dominant theme, it seems that beneath all the questions is The Quest.

Is there a unifying objective that we should be considering, something that might elevate us above and away from the mundane objective of getting through the day? When we speak of a brighter future, what exactly are we alluding to?

In his iconic song, Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen points this out:

Oh, someday, girl, I don’t know when
We’re gonna get to that place
Where we really wanna go and we’ll walk in the sun
But ’til then, tramps like us
Baby, we were born to run

So, where is it that we really want to go….what are we searching for? Certainly, as The Boss states, in the interim, we’re born to deal with the ground beneath our feet; and, it’s often a struggle just to stay upright. But it’s important that we not lose sight of the overriding objective of our pursuit, beyond merely surviving; for when we do, we bring an important element into the mix – light.

“Let there be light,”

another highly quoted declaration, by one of the more important figures of our time, God, also presents this interesting paradox, because the sun, moon and stars weren’t created until the fourth day, as the story goes. So, what exactly is the light that is being referred to?

I suggest we connect these dots. The light is the source of life, and all life long we forage for the bits and pieces of evidence that help us fill our cups with its energy. I like to think of life as a treasure hunt, not just for the tasty morsels we find on the forest floor, but for the sweetest gift of all — the feeling of wholeness we derive from our direct experience of connection with the vastness of the universe.

How wonderful is this journey, when we look up to consider something extraordinary beyond our singular lives, beyond our wildest dreams. As hard as it seems at times to stay on our feet, if we take a leap into the quantum field (more on this to come, I promise) we will finally find our answers and the peace, harmony and love we long for. And, even while we wrestle with doubt, our task might just be to find our place in the stars, to walk in the sun, hand and hand.

In gratitude for the light that shines within you all.

Mitakuye Oyasin,

Michael
