The 2016 Slow Living Summit: Food & Ag Entrepreneurship

The Slow Living Summit is an annual conference taking place April 28-30, 2016 in Brattleboro, Vermont.  The sixth annual Slow Living Summit is an in-depth exploration of key topics in food and agriculture entrepreneurship.  In addition to the workshops and keynotes, entertainment will include a storytelling slam, “Show Me The Money” featuring stories shared by regioinal food & ag entrepreneurs focused on the Summit topic.

This year, while exploring Food & Ag Entrepreneurship, we are inviting attendees to think about all of the ways of succeeding in business by slowing down.  In the age of “accelerators” and “start ups” doing well and good also includes taking a moment to slow down.  The 2016 Summit will be focused on explorations of key topics in food and agriculture entrepreneurship.  These various workshops/topics will include unique insights in the following areas of: business planning, funding sources, marketing tools like business cards, refining and pitching ideas, ownership structures, social impact, collaboration, food & ag business case studies.  While exploring these and many other related topics, the Summit is focused on the concept of Slow Business which includes messages that focus on: reflecting upon failure for future success, taking care of yourself as key for business, and deepening community relationships as a part of good business.

The Slow Living Summit is a conference presented by Strolling of the Heifers, a Brattleboro-based food advocacy organization with the mission of supporting farmers.  We do this by connecting people with healthy local food from local farmers and local food producers, and by adding to their understanding of the value of local food systems. We are also committed to helping to build stronger local food systems by encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship at new and growing farm and food enterprises.  In fact, this year’s Summit marks the kickoff of Windham Grows a virtual and physical business hatchery offiering a unique approach to launching and growing businesses, creating jobs, attracting and retaining younger people while leveraging our infrastructure for entrepreneurs.
