In this presentation, Dr. Finkelstein will discuss the emerging field of Integrative Medicine and provide useful information and guidance on the practical ways to incorporate complementary medicine into your personal life. Drawing on years of experience and training, this is good news for all those looking to feel more in control of their health and leave feeling refreshed with an optimistic perspective.

Slow Medicine for Life

Course Description

Slow Medicine is a holistic approach to living created and founded by Dr. Michael Finkelstein, MD, known as the Slow Medicine Doctor. Slow Medicine philosophy looks at life through a whole systems approach, understanding that everything is inter-connected. In particular, we are affected by the stress of today’s fast paced world that forces people into their sympathetic nervous system (“fight or flight”). Slow Medicine teaches and allows for people to re-engage their parasympathetic nervous system through literally “slowing down,” by returning to balance and rhythm, learning about the essential nutrients to make that happen, such as whole food nutrition, spending quality time with friends and family, connecting to nature, and weaving these all together into creative and fun activities that uplift the spirit Indeed, if “fast” is the disease, than “slow” is the medicine.

In this course series, Dr. Finkelstein will be offering 3 classes, each one addressing one practical application or another; these include: Slow Medicine as a means for Prevention, Slow Medicine to deal with Chronic Ailments, and a special workshop before the holidays on the Slow Medicine approach to Healthy Eating, so central to our ability to achieve the state of wellness we deserve. Each of these will reinforce the message of Slow Medicine which is to recover and maintain functional wellness so that the joy of living is restored and our fullest potential as human beings is realized. Students can chose to take one, two or all 3 classes.
